The New Zealand government has outlined how the $NZ 1bn in additional funding recently allocated to national operator KiwiRail will be spent. In 2016, KiwiRail decided to retire the entire fleet of electric locomotives due to lack of funding, however, the latest investment will help the company to continue operating the trains.
